Spanish Interpreters

Once again the shit has hit the fan. The national news announces that our government is scrambling for bi-lingual and Spanish interpreters for the public school system. Of course this subject sets my temper flaring. Not because I am prejudice, but because once again America has mastered the art of screwing up their priorities.

Immigrants relish in the fact that they can come here to suck up our free medical care, welfare and public school system. Life is so damn hard in Mexico that they can't seem to find the energy to work at making their own country a livable, healthy and educated place to live. They also can't seem to locate any birth control at the bottom of those tequila bottles either. It's much easier to run to the border, squat on American soil, drop a kid and begin the easier process of taking advantage of America. Welcome Amigos and little Amigo-ettes!!

It's pretty basic if you think about it. Move to America, learn English. Oh, no we wouldn't want to make our poor little immigrants feel any more uncomfortable, so we beg you to please not master the English language...we will cater to you. We will hire teachers that speak fluent Spanish or that can at least interpret for you. The other 3/4 of your English speaking class can sit there and wait until you completely understand what your assignment is. That should only waste about half of the classroom time for the legitimate kids who do speak the official language of America.

When I started college in Texas (as an Education Major) I was told that I HAD to take Spanish so that I could teach the Hispanic children that would flood my classroom. I refused and told the counselor that over my dead body would I cater to people who use and abuse our system and then expect us to change it just for them. It would be a safe assumption that if these parents took the time to birth their little Mexican brats on our soil then I would think that by school age they should know English. To keep from stabbing the counselor and to stand by my principals, I took French.

My children are both in public school and if I found out that their teachers were wasting my children's time saying a sentence in English and then repeating it Spanish, I would go postal. I don't have a problem with my children learning other languages, but nothing should ever be forced on them. I stand firm that if they went to another country to be schooled, that they would learn that language out of respect for that country. I don't blame the children for not knowing English. I blame the illiterate, lecherous parents who suck this country dry and take advantage of the opportunities we offer. The hypocrisy can't be missed here...once again the government spends our millions on others, while our own American children go unfed, not sheltered and uneducated. Those millions could be spent on larger, cleaner, safer schools, with updated books, higher teacher salaries and more teachers to provide smaller classroom sizes. Instead the millions go towards an underpaid teacher forced to accommodate to those that are too lazy and refuse to grasp the English language.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for those that don't learn English when they move here? Excuse me if I find zero sympathy at the bottom of my rock hard heart. I find it hard to believe that any other country offers English interpretation in any of their classes. Speak their language or leave the damn country.

Hi Mrs. K..
first of all please excuse my loose spelling and grammar..i tend not to
give them much thought when i write emails..thanks
Im a 17 yr old mexican..this fact does not in anyway leave me biased...
your website is great and all but i only have one problem with it...(and
keep in mind that im not trying to in anyway trying to say that your views
are inncorrect nor am i trying to change your mind.) you comment on the
"immigration" problem we have in this so called great country, and you go
on the say that all of the "immigrants should be sent back to their
respective planets"...IF you want all of the immigrants to go back to
thier countries, then that would mean that you would also have to go back
to where ever your parents, grandparents, gr.grandparents migrated from.
If all of the immigrants went back to their countries then only the native
americans "the indians" would remain here. This country was built on the
foundation of being a land of oppurtunity, a place of freedom, and a place
where the oppression of your own land would not exist in america. It is
sad that people come here expecting that relief and instead they are
confronted with hate a nd degradation. If america is as great of a country
as everyone says it to be then we need to show it. We need to not
discriminate because of race, gender, nationality, etc..we need to rise
above the countries whose credos are based upon hate..the first step to
peace in other countries, is peace on the homefront. Yes it bothers me
that people from mexico come over here and use all of our government
benefits, but i realize that at one time my ancestors were once in those
peoples shoes....anyway...sorry to get on the "moral highhorse" to
hell...keep up the good work....glad to hear that your doing well and
congrats on the new job.
tina
p.s... letter written with no animousity...so if you respond i ask you to
please give me the same courtesy...thank you

I accidentally stumbled across the "Spanish Interpreters" article. Even
considering my "Hispanic" last name, I have to agree with everything that
you said. The Mexicans pouring across the border into this country now
are nothing like my grandparents. I might add that my grandparents all
learned English well enough to start businesses in this country. They
eventually became good American Citizens and valued American ideals. My
ancestors were American enough to volunteer to fight in France during WW-1
and WW-2. I am especially proud of my uncle who was a B-25 bomber pilot
in the south pacific during WW-2.

The Mexicans of today do not enter this country to seek the American
values. These new immigrants, mostly illegal, only want to enter the big
Piggy Bank known as the United States. They have been brain-washed by the
Mexican Government that "The United States stole the country from Mexico."
Really? Lets see the Russians were in California before the Spanish.
Does that count for anything? That's what the Russian Bear on the state
flag stands for, in case nobody knew. Okay, I'll admit that the Spanish
sailed over from Spain and killed-off as many of the indigenous people in
what is now the country of Mexico. So maybe everyone in Mexico with a
Spanish last name should give the land back to the Indians and return to
Spain! After all, anyone with a Spanish last name in Mexico is the
descendent of killers of the original peoples.

Mexico is a third world country in every sense of the word. There seems
to be two elements of society: The Ultra-rich blue bloods and the very
poor 98% of the rest of the population. The Mexican Government is corrupt
beyond repair, which is why the Mexican Government encourages the citizens
to migrate to "their stolen land." In that way, earned money can be
sent back to Mexico. The illegal Mexican immigrants I've spoken with are
so under-educated, it's no wonder that they truly believe all that
brain-washing from their government. There are Mexican groups in
California now that want to make California rejoin with Mexico. That is
illogical. Those Mexicans deserted Mexico to come here. Why re-create
the same conditions here by re-joining with the country of Mexico, the
country the ran away from? I have no problem with Mexican Nationals
wanting to live like Americans, with American values and ideals, but it
seems that most of the Mexicans here want to create just another
Mexico...so I wish that they'd just go back where they came from and not
ruin my country! I have no desire to live in a great big slum called
California Norte.

( My response to the following is based on immigrants that take advantage of this country.
Not Hispanic's in particular. I am responding to the reader's comments.
The article was based on Spanish being taught in the U.S. public schools.)

Hola amiga,
I just read your article regarding America being soo screwed up because it
caters to Mexicans and their children by hiring bilinguals to interpret.
First of all there seems to be a huge misconception that you Americans are
totally not aware of........Mexicans and many illegal immigrants manage to
put huge bucks into the government that they are not able to claim. How
does this happen? Evidently you are not aware what immigrants have to do
to gain employment here in the great U.S OF A. Here's just a litter higher
learning. Immigrants most of the time have to purchase false green cards
and made up Social Security numbers (and that costs a lot of money) so
that they may become employed therefore your screwed up America as you
call it, keeps all this money that is deducted from their paychecks in
TAXES. They are not able to file taxes as most of us do so even if they
could get a refund.....they don't.

K-Says...Why false green cards and SS #'s? Why not the real thing? Why
come to America? Boo Hoo...I'm crying in my Cheerios. How many Americans
do you see fleeing to other countries, illegally or at all, to gain the
democracy, welfare, public schools and free medical care? Few, if any.
Why, because this country kisses ass for profit and publicity. Other
countries stick to their guns and have the "fuck everyone else" attitude.
They also refuse to allow less back stabbing, lecherous, and the "shit on
their traditions and government" than our country does. Other countries
do not cater to ANYONE.
P.S. If legal immigrants file taxes...they are allowed to collect on
those taxes if owed any money. Unless of course they are busted with
illegal identification...a "little higher learning" for you.
P.P.S. Yes, America is screwed up. We allow everyone to use and abuse our
system.

Believe me Mexicans don't come here to live off of Americans we
contribute to the ECONOMY in many more ways than you can imagine. I can
continue to educate you about many things that you are probably not aware
of. We may be minorities but we work harder than any other race. That's
why you will see MEXICANS in your finest food chains, construction,
janitorial services, etc., doing the jobs that many of you AMERICANS will
not do.

K-Says...Yes they do come her to live off of the American freedoms that
their own country does not offer. What other countries do they flee to
for that freedom? Quite frankly, in California, Florida and Texas,
Mexicans are hitting the MAJORITY count...your people have officially
taken over and I think Missouri and Nebraska are next! How many Americans
are working in your country to make the Mexican's rich? The majority of
Mexicans are working in the "finest jobs", like Mc Donald's, mowing lawn's
and mopping floors, because the majority are under-educated, cheap, and
desperate labor. Easy to manipulate.

We don't live off of the government (welfare) as many AMERICANS do, as you
may know you have to have legal status to be able to take advantage, as
you say of America.

K-Says...Obviously you have a comprehension problem. Here's an equivalent
for you...in my article I stated that I was not able to receive financial
aide in college because I was not "Hispanic". WOW! What a shock that, I,
as an American could not benefit off of the money that I had paid to the
government, since the age of 16, and I could not have my college education
even partially paid for?! But if an immigrant is in this country for less
than five minutes...Harvard will pay for their education all the way
through their Doctorate! Lord, if only I spoke Spanish and had a birth
certificate that verified I was born on Mexican soil, my entire college
education would have been paid for!

We are not blessed to be born with a US birth certificate and social
securtiy number therefore we in turn have pay even more to try to make a
living.

K-Says... This is not Disneyland for immigrants! And by the way, that
will be 600 pesos for an E-Ticket to Space Mountain and the fake I.D.'s!!

No disrespect to AMERICANS but you all have everything in the palm of your
hands but many LAZY Americans do not take advantage of many great
opportunities that are easily accessible.

K-Says...Emptying garbage cans would be easily accessible if all those
damn Mexicans weren't sucking up the jobs.

Some Americans choose not to work MEXICANS choose to work no matter
what!!!!!!!

K-Says...Well of course they have to work! Fifteen bambino's are very
hard to support on a tortilla flipper's salary.

My point would be that somehow or another the government is paying these
bilinguals with immigrants hard earned money so if they choose not to
learn the language ... you know what they may just be tooo busy working to
take time to learn the language.

K-Says...Do you have a point? Is it possible the Mexican's are
ambidextrous and they have the ability to choose and/or are too busy to
learn the language? Oh...revelation...this is AMERICA, LEARN THE FUCKING
LANGUAGE OR GO HOME!

It is of no disrespect to this country that they don't want to learn the
language.

K-Says...Now they don't want to learn the language. Is there such a thing
as a contradictory Mexican??

Please keep in mind that AMERICA was built by IMMIGRANTS dating back to
the MAYFLOWER. Therefore you are an immigrant as well, but your color
allows you to belittle those less fortunate.

K-Says...Hmmmm....Mayflower...were there tacos on the Mayflower?? Uh, no.
And guess what...the immigrants spoke English and if they didn't, they
learned it, and sticking with the point of the article, ENGLISH IS THE
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF AMERICA AS OF NOVEMBER 6, 2002.
P.S. I am not officially an immigrant...my million year old ancestor's
were and I am white as Weber's and ship's make me sea sick. Quit floating
on the ancestor boat...last I heard Mexican's were not good swimmer's,
unless of course it was across a river to Texas.

Thank you for your attention,

K-Says...NO really! Thanks for your attention, illiteracy and peso's!
Gracias!!

Dear Amigette..

I read your response and I have quite a few things to clear up.

Get your facts straight. You obviously have issues with that your were
unlucky not be born American, but, lets correct some of the things you
choose to have screwed up yourself. I resent you calling Americans lazy,
as it is the Mexicans who have perfected, the art of the "siesta". You
don't see Wall Street businessmen or even those who also work in the
finest fast food restaurants SNOOZING most of the afternoon away.
Second, as for fake green cards...shame on you. How about applying or even
the lottery system, but instead of doing things legally, they sneak across
the border and work in "under the table" jobs because they DON'T want to
pay taxes. It happens to be a FACT that anyone can get a Social Security
Number in this country. It is also a fact that anyone can file taxes.
Both without being a citizrn or even a resident of the U.S. It is
especially true that once one obtains a SS number they MUST file taxes in
the U.S., which in turn means deductions and refunds. Anyone who gets a
fake SS number and/or green card is an idiot, and the person who makes it
takes the profit from that artwork and pockets it. It isn't profit for
the U.S. government. In addition, if you have seen the most recent green
card (which by the way, is actually blue and white, but obviously you are
an illegal, or you would know that)you would know that there are
identifiers embedded in them now so they cannot be forged.
Bottom line? You are full of shit! As for the low paying jobs, there are
many fine universities in Mexico. If you or obviously the people you hang
around don't choose to get an education, get fake I.D's, work under the
table, don't choose to learn English, which is taught in schools all over
the world, don't be surprised at the mud slinging of opinions. I don't
want people like that in the U.S. draining our economy, using our social
services, Medicaid, and government funding when in fact they are perfectly
capable of towing their own way.
Next time, before you comment, know what you are talking about so you can
respectably defend your side, at least.
P.S. Next time proofread what you write and use spellcheck, as well.

1. I just read your article from 2002 regarding Mexican immigrants in the USA. If you have the opportunity in the future or possibly already have, please visit the country of Mexico in the central or southern states there. I think your views might change regarding the Mexican people. They are the most gracious and spiritually blessed people on the planet. They just do not have the luck to be as financially blessed as we are in America. It should do Americans a good service to blend with such culturally rich and kind people of Mexican descent. By the way, I am trying to learn Spanish and it is more difficult than you might imagine to learn a foreign language.
